    On Tuesday, September 11th we'll host our 3rd educational seminar, presented by Matt Hunter from the American Wood Council and sponsored by Simpson. The course is free and will be held from 7:30 to 9:15 am at Christ Community Church (200 Ellis Place, State College). We'll serve a light breakfast. We do need you to register by September 4th!     Course description:
    With the adoption of the 2015 edition of the ICC model code, the American Wood Council has implemented the newest changes in Design for Code Acceptance 6 : Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide (DCA6) . This presentation will cover a typical load path for a deck, a brief history of deck provisions in the International Residential Code, and an explanation of what parts of the newest version of DCA6 are applicable to ensure compliance with the 2015 IRC. Back ground assumptions and additional resources will be provided as well as a discussion for future editions for DCA6 and deck codes.
    Learning Objectives:

    1.      Identify deck load paths
    2.      Give the history of the relationship between the IRC deck codes and DCA6
    3.      Identify how each requirement of DCA6-15 is applicable to the 2015 IRC based on the differences and similarities for individual deck components
    4.      Cite other resources and tools that are available for deck construction, permit review, and inspection
